Uruku

Úruku — a mythological creature that lives in the northern forests. It is not dangerous for people, it helps those, who have lost, to find a way out of the forest. Úruku takes the souls of frozen and dead people in the forest, and releases the souls only when it reaches the edge of the forest or some settlement. Children in local villages are intimidated with them: "Do not go far into the forest, Úruku will take you."

◇ The creature walks only at night, and during the day it turns into a tree. Therefore, when people see trees with strange twisting branches, they say that Úruku is sleeping.
